Cheap-Vine Wine Series #11

2008 Paso Creek Zinfandel

Paso Robles, California

What a fantastically spooktacular wine for the Halloween season.  What drew me towards this particular bottle of Zinfandel was the label. Can you blame me?  The embossed dead tree with a birds eyes glaring at you, screams Halloween.  I am glad I took a chance and chose a bottle with a great label, because I loved this wine!

Paso Robles wines are often a second thought for most.  Paso Robles is a fertile wine-growing region near Santa Barbara.  While the soil is perfect for grapes, the weather is a bit unpredictable and extreme at times.  So how does wacky weather affect the grapes?  Well, it creates smaller than average grapes with a very concentrated flavor profile.  This high-concentration creates wines that are rich and robust on your palate.  Which is exactly what I want on a spooky October evening.

If you need some great wine for a Halloween get-together or just a night in, this is a great choice.  The label alone could spark conversation at a dinner party.  What bird is that?  Why is it staring into your soul?  What does it all mean?

“Bold Character Derived from Stubborn Patience.”
